One of the top three bridges in Japan, Shinkyo is located in Nikko. Nikko is an out of the way type of place, very small and (one gets the feeling) seasonal. It’s about 3 hours from Tokyo by train.
Deceptively, the bridge is located against a main road and traffic around the area is quite dangerous. If you’re planning on visiting the area, be prepared to wait for the perfect shot and to pay if you want to walk across the bridge. On the other side of the road is the entrance to the world heritage listed temples and shrines for which Nikko is so well known.
We’ll talk about those tomorrow.
